Students + Parents

OPPORTUNITY: In February of 2021, Brent Pittman from Aden Bowman Collegiate reached out to Fran Kick with an interest in creating a virtual student leadership workshop. His hope was to create something virtual for students to give them a confidence boost (during the COVID-19 pandemic). It would need to take place over multiple days to accommodate multiple schedules. His goal was to collaborate and connect with at least three grade 9 band classes from Saskatoon.

RESULTS: Brent presented the idea to the SMEA (Saskatchewan Music Educators Association) board to get their feedback and support. Christa MacBride and the entire SMEA Board were very excited about adding a parent presentation. Thanks to Jennifer Jungwirth, Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Music Educators Association, both programs were streamed in April 2021. A total of 26 individual band and choir classes registered to watch the student leadership workshop video segments with 853 individual students participating remotely. In addition, SMEA had a total of 100 unique visitors watch the parent/community member video.
